Bishop Walter C. Gwin Sr. began fulfilling his call top the ministry in 1989 when he was licensed to preach the gospel, and later in 1991. Bishop Gwin was ordained to the gospel ministry while serving with his father Reverend J. W. Gwin at the Smithfield Baptist Church located in Charlotte, N.C. Bishop is the father of three children, Michael, Chaesity, and Walter II. Bishop Gwin is married to the former Denise Darcalle Byrd of Mt. Holly, N.C. Bishop along with ministry is an educator, author, philanthropist, and pastor to the members of the Spirit of the Word Church International, which he founded in October 2002. Bishop Gwin was born on August 9, 1963 in Texarkana, Texas. Bishop credits his integrity and discipline and self-reliance to his parents, pastor and businessman Reverend J. W. Gwin and homemaker and educator Ella Mae Gwin.

Bishop Gwin is the CEO and founder of Spirit of the Word Church International Inc., Hope Covenant House Community Development Corporation Inc., Word Productions Inc. and Walter Gwin Ministries Inc. all non-profit organizations that produces services, symposiums and conferences that are erected to identify, train and mobilize a people for God endeavoring to maximize their potential. Bishop Gwin's goals are to develop spiritually mature, emotionally stable, financially independent citizens of the Kingdom of God, who are sent forth to the systems of this world with the purpose of promoting the Kingdom of God through spiritual renewal, educational restoration, social reconstruction, community enrichment, psychological liberation, economic empowerment and political enfranchisement.

Bishop Gwin received his education from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, a Bible Diploma and Associate Degree Interdisciplinary Studies from Liberty University, a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Teamers School of Religion, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lasalle University, a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy from the Christian Bible Theological Seminary. Bishop is a Certified Behavior Modification specialist and a Certified Character Education Specialist from the University of San Diego. Bishop Gwin is a life member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, American Association of Christian Counsellors and many more citations and awards locally and nationally for his service in the community as well as the church at-large.

Bishop Gwin is the author of the book, "Healing for the Royal Seed" a book that has revolutionized the lives of all who have had the privilege to read it. Bishop Gwin is a duly consecrated Bishop of Intercessory Deliverance International Fellowship, headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida under the Presiding Arch Bishop Michael J. Thomas PhD. Bishop Gwin has a passion to see the church of Jesus Christ take her rightful place in this world through true intercession, evangelism and sound doctrinal preaching and teaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Making a difference by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and serving the widows and orphans, caring for the seniors through the empowerment of the Kingdom by the inevitable transfer of wealth of the wicked into the hands of the righteous. Bishop Gwin believes with sound unwavering conviction that every believer should walk in their covenant right to live an abundant life.
